ADULT: Wingspan - 32 - 43mm. Readily identifiable with a creamy tan ground colour to the forewaings whivh are crossed with a wide band of buff orange-brown. There is a dark discal spot on each side of the crossband and the wing shape is quite distictive. The wings are held straight horizontally a vary in colour intensity. CHRYSALIS: Found in moss and between fallen leaves. LARVA: Grey and twig-like and are both omnivorous and cannibalistic feeding on younger larvae. BEHAVIOUR: Attracted to light. HABITAT: Woods, parks and gardens as well as shrubby coastal areas, heathland and bogs. FLIGHT PERIOD: Single brooded. July - August. STATUS: Resident and common throughout. |
